Volunteer Wheels partners with regional food banks and pantry networks in Tennessee to combat food insecurity and provide nutritious meals to those in need. Your contribution helps fund vital operations, from sourcing and warehousing food to distributing it through mobile pantries and partnerships with local organizations. With food insecurity still a significant issue in our communities, we rely on the generosity of donors to keep our wheels turning.
Every dollar you donate goes further than you might think. On average, each dollar contributes to about ten meals when considering the efficiencies of our distribution networks. This means that your donations help us make a real, tangible impact in the lives of many residents struggling with hunger, allowing us to reach families, seniors, and children through various dedicated programs.

↗Real impact, real numbers
Your contributions have a direct impact on the number of meals we can provide to those who need them most. For instance, a vehicle donation valued at $1,500 translates into approximately 15,000 meals served at a partner food bank. If you were to contribute a $2,500 vehicle, that’s 25,000 meals. The efficiencies of our distribution network allow your donation to scale linearly, which means every contribution, large or small, makes a significant difference in alleviating hunger in Tennessee.
How we vet recipient partners
We are committed to partnering with reputable food banks and pantry networks that have proven accountability. We prefer organizations that are part of the Feeding America network, ensuring high standards for efficiency and transparency. Our partners typically maintain a Charity Navigator 4-star rating, demonstrate low overhead (less than 10%), and operate with a program ratio of 90% or higher as reported on their Form 990s. This diligence ensures your donation is maximally effective in serving the community.
How proceeds flow
After deducting towing and processing costs, approximately 70-80% of the gross proceeds from vehicle auctions are directed to our partner food banks and pantry networks. However, before these funds can fully benefit their operations, a program ratio is applied. This careful management ensures that your contribution reaches the intended programs while sustaining the ongoing operational costs necessary for effective service delivery.
Tennessee recipient landscape
Tennessee faces unique challenges with food insecurity, heightened by economic factors such as job loss and rising living costs. Local food banks and pantry networks are critical lifelines, addressing immediate hunger while implementing programs tailored to the state’s needs. By donating, you are not only helping to stock food pantries but also enabling services like SNAP outreach and mobile food deliveries that are integral to supporting our communities across Tennessee.
